Brrrr...Cold Hiking Today

Above, I found this tree to be very interesting. The holes were up pretty high on this dead tree. Many scratches from the holes heading up the tree looked like claw scratches. Does a woodpecker do this? Below, hints of green are beginning to dot the landscape of the woods. This branch, along the ground, is still producing greenery.

Finally, the green moss climbing the tree below is another example of some color, still hard to find. In a few weeks these woods will have blossomed into something unimaginable at this point. I find the transformation from dormant, winter-scape to the lush greens of summer to be amazing.

I love the contrast of color in these pictures. The bright green trying to push through the dead leaves and scattered remains of last year's foliage...it's hopeful. I think yellow bellied sap suckers made those holes! They're HUGE:) Hope you enjoyed your hike today.

Beautiful images, Steve! I love the contrast of bright spring colors emerging from the drab winter scenes. (Can't believe you went hiking on such a cold, dreary day!). Unusual tree, too...good eye! :-)

Mosses and fungi are my favorites,I like how you captured the two lowest of the low plant types in the same post.

the second one has nice selective focus..So that is how you isolate an image

You put us all to shame with your motivation to get out and about. My favorite is the second one too, it would make a great notecard.
