The Shadow Is What We Think Of It; The Tree Is The Real Thing....Buddha

Look round and round upon this bare bleak plain, and see even here, upon a winter's day, how beautiful the shadows are! Alas! it is the nature of their kind to be so. The loveliest things in life, Tom, are but shadows; and they come and go, and change and fade away, as rapidly as these! Charles Dickens

These are really beautiful, Steve...and your quote enhances the enjoyment. My favorite is the first image. I like the vertical format and the beautiful blue sky contrasting with the pure white snow. Questions: where did you find such clean looking snow? :-) ....and...how did you get the tree's shadow to look so blue? I don't think the blue sky would make the shadow look THAT blue. What is your secret? The color of the shadow tied in very nicely with the blue sky in the first image. Well done!!!

I love the blue tone of the shadow too. I was trying to figure it out and I think it has something to do with the sky and the reflection off of the white snow. It's very beautiful! Great eye Steve :)

Very nice, especially the second one. Normally I like a vertical for a vertical subject, but in this case (in my mind, anyway) the concentration is really the tree, snow and shadow, so the blue sky in the first image is distracting. A good lesson showing that we should always remember to "work the subject" and to take both vertical and horizontal orientations of our subjects.
